Abstract:Objective: To investigate the application of sufentanil in children undergoing tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. Methods: Sixty children undergoing selective tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy were randomly divided into two groups. Anesthesia was induced by either sufentanil or fentanyl, and maintained by continuously inhaling sevflurane and N_2O. Results: There were no differences in circulatory functions during the surgery in the two groups ( P > 0. 05 ). Recovery time of respiratory was significantly earlier in sufentanil group than in fentanyl group ( P < 0. 05 ) . The extubation time was not significantly different between the two groups ( P > 0. 05 ). Consciousness score was significantly higher in sufentanil group than in fentanyl group (P < 0. 05). Conclusion: Sufentanil can be safely applied in children undergoing tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy.
