Pharmacological and clinical studies of varenicline for smoking cessation

Abstract:Varenicline,a selective partial agonist of α_4β_2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor,is used for smok-ing cessation. It can not only relieve the desire for tobacco and withdrawal symptoms after quit smoking,but also re-duce satisfaction of smoking via blocking nicotine binding to its receptor. It significantly delays relapse. In this pa-per,we reviewed the pharmacology,pharmacokinetics,clinical evaluation and adverse reactions of varenicline.
