Abstract:Expandable gastroretentive dosage forms do not easily pass through the pyloric sphincter in the stomach due to the expandable properties that prolong their gastric retention time (GRT). After drug release, their volumes decreased with subsequent evacuation from the stomach. The dosage form complies with the requirement of oral sustained-controlled release preparations that increase the drug absorption in the stomach and relative bioavail-ability. In this article, we summarized the properties of expandable gastroretentive dosage forms, including general information, preparation characteristics, release principle and evaluation in vivo in order to improve the research.
