Abstract:Objective:To study the effect of ranitidine bismuth cit
rate (RBC) on four kinds of experimental gastric ulcer. Methods :The inh
ibitory effect of RBC on experimental ulcers:including aqueous extra
ct e xcitability ulcer in mice, acetic acid induced ulcer in rats, pylor
ic ligational u lcer in rats, ethanol induced ulcer in rats were observe
d.Results:R BC showed significant protective effect on 4 experimenta
l gastric ulcers.RBC sig nificantly reduced the gastric ulcerogenesi
s,gastric acid secretion, and gastric pepsin activity(in pyloric liga
tion model) in animal models.Ranitidine HCl was a lso effective in trea
tment of gastric ulcer but less poten t than RBC in these models.Conclus
ion:RBC is a suitable agent for treatment of gastric ulcer because it po
ssesses the inhibitory effect of gastric acid secretion of ranitidine
and mucosal protective and pepsin inhibitory effec t of bismuth.
