The clinical efficacy of topiramate monotherapy an d topiramate plus AEDs in treatment of 32 cases of epilepsy

Abstract：Objective：To observe the efficacy of topiramate mon otherapy and topiramate plus AEDs in treatment of epilepsy.Methods ：The study was conducted in 32 patients with epilespy.They were assigned to top iramate(n=11) or topiramate plus AEDs(n=21,with refractory epilepsy)and the changes of seizure rate,electroencephalogram,and side effect were observed. Results：The reduction in seizure rate in monotherapy group was 72 .50% vs 78.9% in combination therapy group.The total effective rate in monothera py group was 81.81% vs 85.71% in combination therapy group.The electroencephalo gram was improved obviously.Conclusion：Both the topiramate monoth erapy and topiramate plus AEDs are effective in treatment of all types of seizur es with mild side effects.
