Abstract：Objective:To compare the efficacy and side effect of clarithromycin and ampecillin-sulbactum in treatment of acute exacerbation of COPD.Methods:50 acute exacebation patients of COPD were randomly a nd equally divided to receive twice daily 0.5g oral clarithromycin or twice dail y 1.5g ampecillin-sulbactum infusion.Results:The total effective rate for clarithromycin and ampecillin-sulbactum group was 92% and 72.2% respec tively with a side effect rate of 8% in both groups.Conclusion:Cla rithromycin is an ideal agent for treatment of acute exacerbation of COPD with t he advantages of convenience and broad anti-bacterial spectrum.
