Prophylactic effect of tramadol and droperidol on shivering after epidural anesthesia

Abstract:Objectives:To study the effect of IM tramadol and droper idol in prevention of shivering after epidual anesthesia.Methods:60 el derly patients undergoing operations were randomly and equally divided to receiv e IM tramadol 1.5mg/kg and droperidol 5mg at 30 minutes before epidural anesthes ia or equal volume of saline in the same condition.The incidence of shivering an d its severity as well as temperature change were observed.Results:The incidence of shivering in the active group was 3.3% vs 26.7% in the control gro up.Significant difference existed between group(P<0.05).Conclusions:Intramuscular injection of tramadol and droperidol is helpful in prevention of shivering after epidural anesthesia.
