OBSERVATION OF S-ADEANOSYL METHIONINE THERAPEUTIC EFFECT ON ACUTE AND CHRONIC HEPATITIS
Abstract：OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the therapeutic effect of S-adeanosyl methionine (SAMe) in treatment of acute and chronic viral hepatitis. METHODS: 33 patients with acute viral hepatitis and 60 patients with chronic viral hepatitis were divided into treatment group (22 patients with acute patients and 40 patients with chronic patients) and control groups (11 patients with acute patients and 20 patients with chronic patients). Patients were treated with intravenous SAMe 1 g/d for 2 weeks in acute treatment group and for 4 weeks in chronic treatment group. Patients in the control groups were treated with intravenous yin-zhi-huang, 30 ml/d for 2 weeks in acute group and 4 weeks in chronic group. The hepatic functions after treatment were compared with those before treatment. RESULTS:The liver function in both acute treatment and control groups (P > 0.05) was improved after treatment but no significant difference in therapeutic effect between groups and the total and direct bilirubin in chronic patients were decreased more rapidly in active groups than those of control group (P＜0.05). CONCLUSION: SAMe is an effective agent for treatment of viral hepatitis especially in reducing intrahepatic cholestasis.
