Abstract:Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase Ⅱ(CaMK Ⅱ)is a protein kinase found in cardiac and brain tissues,as well as in various other cell types. It plays a pivotal role in maintaining normal cardiac physiology. This kinase significantly influences cardiovascular homeostasis by regulating processes such as calcium cycling, electrophysiological activity, and gene expression.Recent studies have highlighted a strong association between abnormal CaMK Ⅱactivation and the pathogenesis of various cardiovascular diseases.Several CaMK Ⅱ inhibitors have demonstrated promising therapeutic effects in preliminary clinical studies, providing valuable insights for the development of novel cardiovascular therapies. This review offers a comprehensive analysis of the role and mechanisms of CaMK Ⅱ in cardiovascular diseases, presenting novel insights and directions for research in cardiovascular biology and medicine.
