Abstract:Cardiovascular disease is the most common complication of type 2 diabetes.Risk factors such as hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, hypertension and obesity associated with metabolic syndrome collectively promote the onset and progression of coronary atherosclerosis. The novel hypoglycemic agent glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1)receptor agonist not only lowers blood glucose and improves pancreatic function but also reduces body weight, lowers blood pressure, regulates lipids, suppresses inflammation and enhances vascular endothelial function.Consequently,it significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular events in diabetic patients, with extensive evidence-based research confirming its cardiovascular protective effects. This article aims to review the mechanisms of the action and recent research advances of GLP-1 receptor agonist in cardiovascular protection, and explore their application prospects in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
