Abstract:Objective The CHG index, which integrates total cholesterol(TC),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),and fasting blood glucose(FBG),has been proposed as a novel biomarker for diagnosing type 2 diabetes. However, the relationship between the CHG index and cardiovascular disease(CVD)risk remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the association between baseline CHG index and CVD risk in individuals aged 45 and older in China. Methods This study utilized longitudinal data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study(CHARLS),which includes data collected in 2011,2013,2015,2018,and 2020,with a total of 7657 participants. The association between the CHG index and CVD risk was assessed using Cox regression models and subgroup analysis. Results The overall prevalence of CVD was 23.96%.Compared with participants in higher CHG index quartiles, those in lower CHG index quartiles exhibited significantly lower cumulative CVD incidence. The Cox regression models showed a significant association between the CHG index and CVD risk.Subgroup analysis revealed that the association between the CHG index and CVD risk was influenced by age, sex, and hypertension status. Conclusion The CHG index can serve as an effective predictive factor for CVD risk.
