Abstract:The retinal vessels are the only blood vessels in the human body that can be directly observed and measured non-invasively,sharing similar anatomical, functional, and pathological characteristics with the cardiocerebrovascular system.A growing body of research indicates that changes in retinal vascular structure are closely associated with the risk of cardiocerebrovascular diseases. This article reviews the relationship between retinal vascular diameter and vascular tortuosity and cardiocerebrovascular diseases,as well as the use of fundus images for predicting cardiocerebrovascular disease risk.
