Abstract:One of the leading causes of death globally is atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease(ASCVD),whose exact mechanism is yet unknown.Large-scale cardiovascular research recently demonstrated that sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors(SGLT-2i)can not only effectively lower the blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes but also significantly lower the risk of cardiovascular adverse events in the patients with ASCVD.As a result,SGLT-2i has emerged as a crucial medication for the treatment of both high-risk type 2 diabetes and ASCVD.SGLT-2i can also improve the quality of life and prognosis of patients, reduce the incidence and mortality of ASCVD,and show potential anti-atherosclerotic effects. This article reviews the recent progress of SGLT-2i in anti-atherosclerosis,and looks forward to the future research direction.
