Abstract:Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction(HFpEF)is a multisystem geriatric syndrome with high mortality and readmission rate. The incidence of HFpEF is increasing year by year with the aging of the world. However, the current understanding of the mechanisms of HFpEF in the elderly is limited;elderly patients have multiple cardiovascular disease risk factors, coexisting diseases and the natural decline of body functions, etc.,and the existing clinical trials and animal models fail to fully reflect the real pathological characteristics. In view of the special characteristics of the elderly population and the complexity of HFpEF disease, the study of the mechanisms of HFpEF in the elderly is particularly complex and critical.Given the special characteristics of the elderly population and the complexity of HFpEF disease, the study of the mechanism of HFpEF in the elderly is particularly complex and critical. The aim of this paper is to summarise the potential underlying mechanisms of HFpEF in elderly patients and provide a scientific basis for the clinical diagnosis and treatment.
