Abstract:Depression is a mental disorder with high incidence rate, high clinical cure rate and high recurrence rate. Its main feature is a significant and lasting emotional depression, and some patients may have self-injury and suicidal behavior.Epidemiological surveys have found that the incidence rate of atrial fibrillation in patients with depression is higher than that in non-depressed patients.Relevant studies have shown that depression can induce a series of changes in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis imbalance, inflammatory response, oxidative stress and other related factors in the body. These changes can increase the likelihood of atrial fibrillation by inducing electrical remodeling and structural remodeling in the heart muscle. This article reviews the relationship between depression and atrial fibrillation from the perspective of depression as a trigger for the onset of atrial fibrillation.
