Abstract:Patent foramen ovale(PFO)is a common congenital heart disease caused by incomplete closure of the foramen in adulthood.Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction(HFpEF)is a common form of heart failure, which is characterized by a clinical syndrome dominated by increased left atrial pressure, especially during exercise.Recently, the use of transcatheter intracardiac shunt devices to artificially form atrial shunts has become a potential treatment for reducing left atrial(LA)pressure in patients with HFpEF.PFO with natural atrial shunt is of great significance in the treatment of HFpEF patients. Therefore, this article provides an overview of the links between PFO and heart failure, especially HFpEF.
