Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation of plasma homocysteine and gene polymorphism of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase(MTHFR) with acute myocardial infarction(AMI).Methods We conducted 60 patients with AMI (37 males,23 females, mean age 66.3 years) and 60 healthy individuals (39 males,21 females, mean age 68.7 years) in our hospital from 10/2013 to 04/2016.MTHFR gene polymorphism, plasma homocysteine(Hcy) concentration, and folate level were measured. Results There was a significant increase in Hcy level among the AMI patients (18.74±3.71)pμmol/L as compared to the healthy controls (10.74± 5.11)μmol/L (P<0.05).However,rolate concentrations in AMI patients (4.87±3.16)ng/ml were dramatically lower than those in controls (9.71±2.97)ng/ml.Among AMI patients,Hcy concentration in MTHFR C667 gene homozygosis mutant type (TT type) group was (19.74±3.16)p,mol/L,significantly higher than those in heterozygosis mutant type (CT type) (13.68±3.94) μmol/L and wild type (CC type) (12.41 ± 1.54) μmol/L groups. The proportion of TT type in AMI patients (36.67%) was higher than that in controls (16.67%).Additionally,the frequencies of T allele in AMI patients were also increased. Conclusion Plasma Hey level is tightly related to the morbidity of AMI.MTHFR gene polymorphism is closely associated with AMI incidence.T allele of MTHFR gene is possibly the key factor to gene mutation in AMI patients.
