Abstract:Objective To systematically evaluate the effect of selective β blockers and vasodilating β blockers on arterial stiffness (AS) in hypertension. Methods Electronic searches were conducted in Pubmed,EMbase,Cochrane,Web of Science and CBM databases. The time for researches was from the beginning of databases establishment to July 14,2016.Randomized clinical trials were included in this review. The systematic review was performed using RevMan 5.3 and the assessment of methodological quality was done based on Cochrane handbook.Carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV) was evaluated as the outcome. Results 4 randomized controlled trials were included (involving 197 patients),all trials included in this review were of poor quality. The result showed that the comparison between selective β blockers and vasodilating β blockers on AS had no differences (MD=0.09,95%CI-0.25-0.42).Conclusion New generation vasodilating β blockers is not more effective than selective β blockers on AS in hypertension.
