Plasma Lp-PLA2 levels in patients with chronic heart failure prognostic significance
Abstract:Objective We evaluated the association of Lp-PLA2 with mortality in subjects with HF.Methods All subjects consisted of 150 patients with CHF and 150 cases of normal controls. The differences of the levels of Lp-PLA2 between the two groups were compared. Then according to the results of Lp-PLA2,the patients in CHF group were further divided into 2 subgroups-high level group and low level group. The baseline characteristics across Lp-PLA2 groups were compared. Results The levels of Lp-PLA2 in subjects with CHF were significantly higher than those in controls (P<0.05).150 patients were divided into two groups according to the Lp-PLA2 median:the high level group and the low level group. The high level group had higher NT-proBNP,LDL-C and LAD values, and there was significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05),no additional differences were detected for other medications.Elevated Lp-PLA2 was associated with an increased risk of mortality. In Cox proportional hazards regression analyses, the HRs for death associated with a 1-unit increase in the Logtransformed Lp-PLA2 levels were 3.688.Conclusion Lp-PLA2 is strongly and independently associated with mortality and contributed incrementally to risk discrimination in patients with CHF.
