Effects of different sowing dates on main agronomic characters of head lettuce

Abstract：Four new varieties of head lettuce ‘ Biyu 1’,‘ Biyu 2’,‘ Biyu 3’ and ‘ Xisike’ were used as materials,and the main agronomic characters of which were identified under different sowing dates in this study.The results showed that the 4 new varieties were suitable for overwintering cultivation in greenhouse and rain shelter cultivation in spring in Shanghai and nearby areas,the quality and yield of head lettuce were affected by sowing date.In Shanghai and nearby areas,the suitable sowing time for rain shelter cultivation in spring is middle February,and the optimum sowing time for overwintering cultivation is during early December of each year to the middle of January of the following year.
