Advance on powdery mildew and molecular genetic base of resistance in melon

Abstract：Melon (cucumis melo L.) is one of the most important and famous fruits in the world,however,its yield and quality were seriously affected by powdery mildew (PM).The best way to solve the problems is breeding and popularizing the PM-resistant melon cultivars,understanding of the molecular genetic basis of melon resistant to PM is the premise to promote the progress of breeding disease-resistant cultivar.In this review,the species of melon pathogens of PM,its geographic distribution,race identication,genome characteration,and the melon genetics basis of resistance to PM were comparatively analyzed and discussed.And prospecting research advance based on the current studies related to melon PM,these were expected to offer a comprehensive theory foundation for better understanding the characteration of PM and promote the melon resistant breeding for PM.
