Research progresses on architecture related traits of melon

Abstract：Melon is an important horticultural crop.China is the biggest country of melon production and consumption in the world.Because of the shorter growth period and higher economic profitability,cultivation areas for melon,especially the protected cultivation,presented a steady rise trend in china recently..Architecture is an important factor effecting cultivation density and yield for protected cultivation of melon,and has become an important orientation of super high-yielding breeding in rice,wheat and maize.However,it was rarely reported in melon.Consequently,we reviewed the research progresses on traits associated with melon architecture,such as internode length,leave area and lateral branch,and put forward some advices to receive additional consideration in melon architectural breeding in the future.
