Comparative analysis of watermelon and melon industry development in China and America

Abstract：Based on the data of United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization from 1960 to 2014,we analyzed the watermelon and melon production between China and America from planting area,yield,per capita amount,the trade situation,etc.In conclusion,the watermelon and melon acreage will increased slowly or even decreased slightly,but with the progress of technology,yield level will has sustainable growth,and American watermelon and melon per capita amount is declining,meanwhile China watermelon per capita amount is increasing and the consumption tends to be stable.Net import of watermelon and melon of America increased continuously,which hold more and more proportion of total domestic supply.The self-sufficiency ratio of watermelon and melon of China remains at a very high level all the time.However,the consumption of watermelon and melon of America doesn't increase obviously with economic growth and rising incomes.
