Research progress and prospect in pepper breeding in China

Abstract：China ranked the first place for production and planting area of pepper in the world.The production value and benefit of pepper is more than the other vegetables.Since 1970s,The use of systematic breeding,hybridization,male sterility,anther culture in vitro,space breeding,marker-assisted selection breeding,genetic engineering technology and other breeding methods,representative varieties had been released,which promoted pepper industry development.In this paper,the research progress of pepper breeding is reviewed and suggestions are put forward for the future of pepper breeding.
