A new watermelon cultivar ‘ Suchuang No.2’

Abstract：‘Suchuang No.2’ is a new watermelon variety obtained by crossing inbred line ‘X67-2-1-2’ as female parent and ‘W12’ as male parent.It is characterized as early-maturing and easy to set fruits variety.The whole growth period was about 110 days and the fruit development period was about 33 days.The plant have strong growth vigor,the first female flower node was observed at the 7th to 8th node position of main vine.The fruit is spherical,dark green with black stripes and dark red flesh.In normal condition,the soluble solid content in center and near skin is 11.3％ and 8.6％,respectively.The average single fruit weight is 4.2 kg,and the yield in the open field is up to 2 725.5 kg per 667 m2.It is suitable for long distance transportation and storage because of the 0.95 cm skin thickness with hardness of 10.49 kg·cm2.In most regions of China,it can be grown in the open and protected field.
