Abstract:The important objective of seedling nursery is to produce vigorous seedlings, however, unfavorable environmental conditions often induces overgrowth of watermelon seedling. The present study investigated the effects of different concentra?tions of paclobutrazol (PP333, 0, 5, 10, 15, 25 mg·L-1) at two growth stages (seed germination and initial cotyledons extension stages) on the growth and physiological parameters of watermelon seedlings. The results showed that the optimum spraying concentration of PP333 at seed germination stage was 5 mg·L-1, and the value was 10 mg·L-1 at initial cotyledons extension stage. The plant height was significantlydecreased , whereas the stem diameter, leaf relative chlorophyll content (SPAD), root activity, root to shoot ratio and vigor index of watermelon seedlings were remarkably increasedby using PP 333.
