Abstract:In order to determine the best disinfection methods for various vegetables, we taking lettuce, romaine lettuce, large-leave endive and Chinese chives as materials, the effect on germination rate and disinfection by different sterilizing methods which contained 2% NaOH, heat water treatment, KMnO4, ultraviolet irradiation and CuSO4 were tested in this study. The results showed that the effects on vegetables by different sterilizing treatment are different. We found that 2%NaOH-sterilizing was the optimal way for both of lettuce and large-leave endive, while the best way for leaf lettuce and Chinese chives were the treatment by hot water and CuSO4 respectively. The contamination rates were decreased to 8%, 40%, 16%and 6%, respectively, by corresponding disinfection methods with barely affecting the germination rates. Explor ing the most proper disinfection methods for seeds of vegetable was able to direct vegetable factory to breed strong and aseptic seedlings, and to lay a foundation for vegetable production that was clean, safe and efficient.
