Comparison experiment new variety of Cucumis melo ssp. melo in spring greenhouses of Hubei

Abstract：In order to solve the problems of the lack of high quality and strong adaptable Cucumis melo ssp. melo variet?ies, as well as small cultivated area and low economic benefit in Hubei ,47 new varieties were used, and 10 varieties with excellent comprehensive characters were selected to the comparison experiment. The results showed that ZW3 (‘Zhongtian No. 7’) and ZW21 (‘Zhongtian No. 211’) could be cultivated in greenhouses in Hubei in spring as early maturity varieties because of the early maturity, low temperature resistant and good fruit setting. ZW2、ZW4 and ZW9could be the main cultivated varieties caused the better performances in terms of growth vigor, consistance of fruit-set, good commodity nature, high yield and high content of soluble solids (up to 18%) in early spring in Hubei province.
