The difference of watermelon fruit citrulline content in different ecological condition

Abstract：In order to clarify the difference of the watermelon fruit citrulline content in different ecological conditions. we determined the citrulline content of 15 watermelon cultivars planted in Xinjiang and Hainan by UV-visible spectrophotometric method. The results showed that the citrulline content of 15 watermelon ranged from 1.13 g·kg-1 to 2.46 g·kg-1 in Xinjiang, and ranged from 0.62 g·kg-1 to 2.22 g·kg-1 in Hainan province. The citrulline content in Xinjiang were significantly higher than that in Hainan. Our results demonstrated that citrulline concent was affected by materials and environment, and the amount of environmental effect varies among materials. In this study, the materials with the high and stable citrul line concen?tration were‘White wonder’and‘9904’which can be used as parent materials to develop cultivars with high concentration of citrulline.
