Economic analysis of watermelon and muskmelon production and trade

Abstract：The data of FAOSTAT between 1978 and 2013 was used to analyze international development of watermelon and muskmelon in recent 36 years in the aspects of planting areas, yields, the regional distributions of production and trade. The results showed that the planting areas of watermelon and muskmelon were in slow growth and yields was in continuous increasing. The planting areas and yields got the first place and lowest export rate in Asia, most active in Europe and Ameri ca. Future demand growth in developing countries will become the main driving factors of watermelon and muskmelon industry development.
