Effects of Bee Pollination on Small Fruit Watermelon Production under Protected Trellis Culture

Abstract：In order to reduce labor, cost and to promote simplified watermelon cultivation we evaluated the use of bee pollination on small fruit watermelon product with trellis culture under protected facilities. Italian bees and watermelon variety‘L600’were used for the experiment and manual pollination were used as check. Watermelon‘Jingxin 3’were used as border to ensure sufficient amount of pollen. Our results shows that border variety‘Jinxin 3’iwas beneficial for bee pollination, temperature and humidity effected bee pollination. Bee pollination produced fruit with better quality and saved input cost of 990 yuan on 667 m2.
