Influence of Seed Treatments on Watermelon Seedling Emergence and Growth

Abstract：In order to compare the effect of seed treatments on watermelon seedling emergence and growth under grower condition,four nursery greenhouses in Shunyi and Daxing of Beijing were chosen for evaluation of seed treatment. The results indicated that seed soaking in warm water,and chemicals including Carbendazim,Previcurn,MaximXL,increased seedling emergence;meanwhile Carbendazim and Previcurn improved seedling fresh weight and uniformity. Only the untreated seed in experiment location 4 had damping off seedlings(5%),while no disease occurred in seedlings from treated seed. In general,seed treatment improved seedling emergence and growth. However,seed pre-germination and soil treatment may influence the effect of seed soaking treatment.
