Comparative Experiment of Small Fruit Watermelon Variety

Abstract：In order to meet the needs of watermelon production in Beijing area, we tested the Japanese small fruit watermel-on varieties under local cultivation. The results showed that:the growth of‘CX11’was relatively balanced. Its plant height, leaf area and stem diameter were 211 cm,394 cm2 and 9.44 mm,respectively. The order of the growth potential was‘CX21-1’>‘CX21’>‘CX11’>‘L555’>Jingxiu. The marketable yield of the varieties were 95%-97%and they were easy for set-ting fruit. The yield of‘CX21-1’‘L555’and‘CX11’reached to 3 091 kg per 667 m2,3 037 kg per 667 m2 and 3 037 kg per 667 m2,respectively. The skin thickness of‘CX21’is only 0.46 cm,L555’has the highest soluble solids content in cen-ter and edge,11.74% and 9.78% respectively. CX11’and‘L555’performed better in terms of yield and are suitable for large scale trial.‘CX21-1 can be produced for wholesale market. Jingxiu and‘CX21’are not suitable for production in ear-ly spring greenhouse in this area.
