Breeding of Watermelon Variety‘Qinhong No. 3’with Dark Skin and High Disease Resistance

Abstract：‘Qinhong No. 3’is a new watermelon variety with dark skin developed by crossing inbred lines‘Huiyuan1492’ with‘Huamei 71301’. It is a mid maturing variety. The plant grows vigorously and resistant to Fusarium wilt. The total growing period is about 96 days,and the fruit development period is about 32 days. It sets uniform fruits easily. The fruit is oval shape,dark skin with deep black stripes. The red flesh is crisp with soluble solid contents 11%in center and 9%near skin. The average fruit weight is 7.1 kg. The yield per 667 m2 is about 4 373 kg. It is suitable for planting in greenhouse and open field in North China.
