The Medical Costs and Financing Burden of Diabetes Mellitusin China
Abstract：Objective:To present the estimation results of China diabetes mellitus(DM) curative care expenditure based on System of Health Accounts 2011(SHA 2011).Methods:Based on SHA 2011,it estimated the aggregate of China DM curative care expenditure and expenditure by beneficiary,by health provider and by financing scheme in 2014.Results:The DM curative care expenditure amounted to 80.33 billion yuan,and curative care expenditure per DM patients was 2 188.73 yuan;the treatment expenditure on DM mainly occurred in hospitals,while primary health care institutions shared low part;33.99％ of curative expenditure on DM relied on household.Conclusion:A great number of DM patients had consumed substantial medical resources,and led to heavy financial bur den on society and households;curative expenditure on DM mainly occurred in hospitals,and primary health care providers failed the role of "gatekeeper'',early prevention and early treatment should be carried out for DM,which would reduce the financial burden on DM in future.
