The Current Status and Strategies of Medical Security of Patients with Rare Diseases in Fujian
Abstract:Objective:To investigate the medical security of patients with rare diseases in Fujian,in order to provide references for establishing medical security policy for rare diseases.Methods:The medical insurance of 386 cases(out of 7 types) of rare diseases were surveyed.Results:The average annual medical cost was 109000 yuan while the maximum cost was 2.2 million yuan.91.19% of patients with rare diseases had encountered difficulties during treatment and the main reason was high treatment cost(57.77%).The average self-pay part of annual medical cost was 53 000 yuan.The self-pay part exceeded 40.00% of family annual income in 76.94% cases.The self-pay part exceeded family annual income in 33.42% cases.Conclusion:The treatment costs of rare disease should be added in the scope of medical insurance to help rare disease patients to be treated and reduce the burden on individual medical expenses of patients.
