Abstract:Objective: To analyze the effect of reimbursement policy for outpatient costs of chronic diseases under New Rural Cooperative Medical System (NCMS). Methods: The sample was divided into a treatment group and control group according to the policy implementation. Difference-in-differences model is used to analyze the changes in the catastrophic expenditure of the rural households with chronic diseases before and after the implement of policy. Results: The effect of NCMS reimbursement policy for chronic disease on reducing family economic burden was not obvious, but the NCMS provides economic support for rural households with chronic diseases. Conclusion: The NCMS reimbursement policies should be strengthened in both the width and strength of compensation.
