Multimodal Technology Empowering Closed-Loop Neural Modulation: Advances and Challenges in the Precision Treatment of Drug-Resistant Epilepsy
Abstract:Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder characterized by recurrent epileptic seizures, which severely affect patients' physical and mental health and quality of life. Drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) refers to the condition where patients fail to achieve sustained seizure control after adequate treatment with two antiseizure medications (ASMs), accounting for 20% to 40% of all epilepsy patients. These patients often face higher morbidity and mortality rates, with severe impairment in quality of life, imposing a heavy burden on families and society [1-2].
