From Craniotomy to Artificial Intelligence: Paradigm Shift and Challenges in Neurosurgical Tumor Surgery
Abstract:The ultimate goal of neurosurgical surgery is to balance the extent of tumor resection with the preservation of neural function, a goal that is being transformed by the integration of imaging guidance, minimally invasive surgery, and artificial intelligence and robotic technologies. Intraoperative imaging navigation has evolved from static anatomical assessment to dynamic functional and metabolic monitoring: 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) fluorescence-guided technology can improve the complete resection rate of high-grade gliomas, and resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) has overcome the limitations of patient cooperation, providing precise functional support for glioma molecular subtyping prediction [1-2]. These technologies collectively establish a 'visible, measurable, and predictable' precision surgical platform.
