Abstract:With the intensifying trend of population aging in China, the incidence of traumatic brain injury(TBI)among older adults has been rising year by year.Falls and traffic accidents constitute the leading causes of TBI in this population.Due to age-related physiological decline, elderly patients are prone to delayed neurological deterioration following injury.Furthermore, the frequent pre-operative use of multiple medications—particularly those with anticoagulant effects—can significantly influence clinical outcomes.TBI in the elderly exhibits distinctive characteristics compared with TBI in younger adults. This review summarizes the epidemiology, etiological factors, pathophysiological features, impact of anticoagulant therapy, and current treatment strategies for TBI in the elderly.
