Application and Prospects of Optical Coherence Tomography Scanning Robots in Neuro-oncological Surgery
Abstract:Gliomas are the most common malignant tumors of the central nervous system in adults, with WHO grade IV glioblastoma (GBM) accounting for approximately 60% of glioma cases. The prognosis for patients is extremely poor, with a median survival time often less than 2 years, making it one of the solid tumors with the lowest 5-year survival rates known to date [1]. Currently, the clinical treatment of gliomas still focuses on achieving maximum safe resection of the tumor while preserving neurological function. Traditional surgical planning based on enhanced MRI imaging still requires further development of intraoperative imaging technologies to address issues such as 'brain drift,' including intraoperative MRI, intraoperative ultrasound, and Raman spectroscopy imaging [2]. At the same time, the Response Assessment in Neuro-Oncology (RANO) working group recommends multi-modal imaging-guided biopsies to determine the extent of resection for gliomas [3]. Therefore, the development of intraoperative imaging technologies holds significant importance for the treatment of gliomas.
