A Case Report of Cranial Base Knitting Needle Penetrating Injury
Abstract:Objective To summarize the experience in the treatment of a child with a cranial base knitting needle penetrating injury, in order to improve the safety of surgery for similar patients. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of a child diagnosed with foreign body penetration into the right atlas. The patient underwent right far lateral approach for removal of the foreign body. Results Preoperative three-dimensional reconstruction showed that the knitting needle remained 2 cm, and had a close relationship with the vertebral artery. During the operation, the V3 segment of the vertebral artery was dissected, and the atlas bone was expanded around the foreign body, and the foreign body was removed in three parts. Postoperatively, the patient recovered well without complications or sequelae. Conclusion For patients with traumatic foreign bodies at the craniocervical junction, it is essential to perform comprehensive preoperative imaging assessment, strengthen perioperative management, develop a meticulous surgical plan, and actively perform surgical treatment, which can help improve the patient's prognosis.
