Abstract:Objective To explore the treatment experience of recurrent glioma using a novel modified mini-incision.Methods Clinical data of 8 patients with recurrent gliomas were analyzed retrospectively, who underwent reoperation using a novel modified mini-incision technique. All the reoperations were performed by the same surgeon. The modified mini-incisions employed were straight incisions that did not overlap with the original incisions, with lengths ranging from 5 to 6 cm and bone flap sizes of 2 to 3 cm.The average surgical duration was 91 minutes. Results All the 8 patients with recurrent gliomas achieved complete resection on imaging.Histopathological examination verified glioma in all the cases. The average postoperative hospital stay was 6.8 days.No serious complications occurred in all the patients, and no new or existing neurological deficit symptoms were aggravated. All the 8 patients had good local wound healing without any wound-related complications. Conclusions For patients with recurrent gliomas in specific locations or with smaller lesions, reoperation using a novel modified mini-incision is recommended. It can ensure complete resection while minimizing surgical trauma and reducing surgery-related complications, thus being beneficial for patients to receive subsequent treatment in a timely manner.
