A Case Report of Refractory Chronic Subdural Hematoma in Young Adults and a Literature Review
Abstract:Objective To summarize the clinical characteristics of refractory chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) in young adults and provide evidence for the treatment of such patients. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the imaging features, treatment methods, and clinical outcomes of one case of refractory CSDH, and the diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for such CSDH were discussed. Results The young patient experienced recurrence of the hematoma after hard catheter puncture, and then underwent middle meningeal artery embolism (MMAE) and burr hole drainage successively, but the short-term symptoms improved poorly. After conservative drug treatment, the hematoma gradually resolved. Conclusion For young patients with refractory CSDH, drug conservative treatment or traditional surgical methods are preferred. The efficacy of MMAE in treating CSDH in young adults needs further validation through multi-center randomized controlled studies.
