Diagnosis and Treatment of Malignant Gliomas: Tracing the Journey, Understanding the Present, and Thinking About the Future
Abstract:In the past 20 years, significant progress and breakthroughs have been made in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant gliomas, but many challenges remain. Globally, China accounts for more than one-quarter of new brain tumor cases each year and more than one-fifth of cancer-related deaths, making the disease burden the highest in the world [1]. For the diagnosis and treatment of malignant gliomas, tracing the journey allows us to stay true to our original aspirations and understand the logic behind the principles of glioma treatment from a macro perspective; reviewing the current situation enables us to follow standards while being brave enough to innovate. In the era of systems medicine, we should also think about how to use technologies such as systems biology, computational biology, big data analysis, and artificial intelligence to integrate genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, imaging, and clinical data, to comprehensively reveal the mechanisms of occurrence, development, and treatment of malignant gliomas.
