Minimizing surgical trauma to achieve the maximum therapeutic effect
Abstract:1 Historical Development
'Obtaining the maximum therapeutic effect with the least medical damage' has been the principle of clinical medicine for a long time [1]. Neurosurgeons began exploring microsurgery in the 1950s. KURZE [2] performed the first acoustic neuroma surgery using a microscope and published the article 'Microsurgical Techniques in Neurosurgery'. In the 1960s, RAND and JANNETTA [3] applied binocular surgical microscopes to treat brain tumors and intracranial aneurysms. YASARGIL [4] demonstrated techniques for removing brain tumors and cerebral vascular malformations using a surgical microscope, making important contributions to the treatment of neurological diseases. At the same time, MALIS [5] published bipolar electrocoagulation and other fine surgical instruments for microsurgical procedures in neurosurgery. These marked the beginning of human micro-invasive neurosurgical technology.
