Abstract:Objective To investigate the incidence and trajectory of thirst in patients with pituitary neuroendocrine tumors(PitNET)before and after tumor resection surgery and analyze the influencing factors. Methods A total of 190 patients who underwent transsphenoidal pituitary tumor surgery were enrolled in this study. The Numerical Rating Scale(NRS)was used to assess the patients'thirst status before surgery and on the first to fifth days after surgery, with an NRS score of≥3 considered indicative of the presence of thirst symptoms. Results The preoperative incidence of thirst in PitNET patients was 67.9%,which significantly increased to 84.2%on the first day after surgery. From the second day after surgery onwards, the incidence began to gradually decrease, reaching 27.9%by the fifth day after surgery.Latent profile analysis revealed two distinct latent classes of perioperative thirst scores in PitNET patients:a rapidly improving group(102 cases,54.2%)and a slowly improving group(88 cases,45.8%).Logistic regression analysis showed that daily water intake, the duration of bilateral nasal tamponade, postoperative fever(T≥38.5℃),and postoperative diabetes insipidus symptoms differed significantly between the two groups(P<0.05).Conclusions Thirst symptoms in PitNET patients may be alleviated post-surgery,with distinct perioperative thirst score trajectories.Various preoperative and postoperative factors contribute to the persistence of thirst post-treatment.
