Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of graded swallowing nursing care based on the Gugging Swallowing Screen(GUSS)in patients with Parkinson's disease(PD)complicated by swallowing dysfunction. Methods A total of 76 PD patients with swallowing dysfunction were numbered according to the order of admission, and divided into control group(n=38)and observation group(n=38)using an odd-even number grouping method. The control group received routine nursing care, while the observation group received additional swallowing care interventions based on GUSS classification. The Standardized Swallowing Assessment(SSA),Swallowing Disorder Patients Quality of Life Scale(SWAL-QOL),and levels of hemoglobin(Hb),albumin(Alb),and total protein(TP)were compared between the two groups before and after the intervention. The incidence of swallowing-related adverse reactions was also recorded. Results After the intervention, both groups showed a decrease in SSA scores and an increase in SWAL-QOL scores,Hb,Alb,and TP levels. However, the observation group had significantly lower SSA scores and higher SWAL-QOL scores,Hb,Alb,and TP levels compared to the control group(P<0.05).The incidence of swallowing-related adverse reactions was lower in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions Graded swallowing nursing care interventions based on GUSS classification can effectively improve swallowing function, quality of life, and nutritional status in PD patients with swallowing dysfunction, and play a positive role in reducing the occurrence of swallowing-related adverse reactions.
