Abstract:Objective To observe the association between hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) levels and outcomes of the patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). Methods The clinical data of 56 aSAHpatients (aSAHgroup)were analyzed retrospectively. The HGF, interleukin-10 (IL-10) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) levels were measured at 12, 24 and 72 h post-hemorrhage. There were 50 unruptured aneurysm patients (negative control group) and 50 healthy volunteer (normal control group) as comparison. After a3-month follow-up period, patient outcomes were evaluated by the Glasgow Outcome Score (GOS). Results Compared to negative control group and normal control group, the levels of HGF, IL-10 and TNF-α at 12 h post-hemorrhage were higher in aSAH group (all P <0.05). All 56 aSAH patients survived for 3 months after discharge. According to GOS, 56 aSAH patients were divided into good prognosis group (GOS 4 to 5 points) and poor prognosis group (GOS 1 to 3 points). The HGF levels at 12, 24, and 72 h post-hemorrhage in good prognosis group were higher than poor prognosis group (P < 0.05). The IL-10 levels were higher and TNF-α levels were lower at 12 h and 24 h post-hemorrhage in good prognosis group than poor prognosis group (all P < 0.05). Conclusions The levels of HGF, IL-10 and TNF-α are high in aSAH patients at 12 h post-hemorrhage. A high HGF level is associated with a good functional outcome after aSAH, which may be associated with anti-inflammatory effects of HGF.
