Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical features, treatment method and prognosis of patients with the central neurocytoma. Methods Clinical data of 31 patients with central neurocytoma were analyzed retrospectively, who received resection of tumors via trans-frontal approach in 13 patients and via interhemispheric transcallosal approach in 18. Results The tumors were totally removed in 28 patients and partially in 3. The symptom of hydrocephalus in all patients was relieved. The postopertaive complications contained secondary hematoma in the ventricle in 1 patient, epilepsy in 1 and decreased muscle strength in 1, who got better after treatment. The patients were followed up for 40 to 50 months with a mean period of 46.3 months. Twelve patients received chemotherapy after surgery and 1 recurred 48 months after surgery. No death occurred. Conclusion Microsurgical resection and adjuvant stereotactic radiotherapy is an effective treatment for central neurocytomas.
